Core Vocabulary & Tangible Symbols: A Case Study

As requested, I am sharing the presentation I did with Lee Murray at #AGOSCI2022.

I have been very fortunate to work with Lee and the other staff at Salisbury Park Primary School for the last 8 years. I was also lucky enough to spend time with Ryder both at Salisbury Park Primary School and at his previous school.

I have had to change the way in which I share this presentation as the original method kept having technical difficulties! Unfortunately, this means I need to share the videos separately. The links to watch the videos are below:

Ryder on the Move

Ryder & Version 2 video 1 and Ryder & Version 2 video 2

Version 4 in action

And huge thanks to Ryder’s family for giving us permission to share this presentation in its entirety.

Spread the word. Share this post!

Hi Jane, please keep us updated on the more robust tactile symbols. I was just having a conversation with a team about introducing these to a learner on the day your post has come out. Very exciting 🙂 I absolutely loved the videos showing Ryder’s progress

    Dear, Jane!

My name is Fernanda… I am doing my PhD in Special Education at UFSCAR (Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil). My research is in the area of Deafblindness and Literacy.

I’m reaching out to you because of your experience with Project Core.

My first contact with Project Core was through a friend, who translated the modules and materials into Portuguese. She asked me to help her develop the 3D symbols of the universal basic vocabulary in Portuguese, which became a focus of my research.

I will complete my PhD in April 2023. And I intend to do a postdoctoral research to validate the symbol prototypes. However, to learn from someone with more experience, I would be willing to spend some time in the United States.

My contact is to know a little more about your experience with Project Core and 3D Symbols to support the emerging student.

I look forward to hearing from you.

HI Ellenore, I’ve fixed it again – and gone with a different format. The videos are no longer embedded in the presentation, but are hyperlinked in the post instead. Thanks so much for letting me know!
