Leading to Literacy

I was very privileged to be invited to do a plenary presentation at the Queensland Association of Special Education Leaders‘ annual conference.   Below is the presentation I gave on “Leading to Literacy” where I got to talk about the fabulous Willans Hill School and the four years of our journey implementing balanced literacy instruction with all students in the school.  I always feel very lucky to work with such a wonderful group of students and staff.

PS  The fabulous principal at Willans Hill, Chris Lennon, has recently announced her retirement plans.  We’ll really miss her – but I’m hoping we can “persuade” her into doing other things now!

Love it! Willans Hill could not have got to where we are today without you! You truly are an amazing woman!

Hello. I am an OT working in special education and getting my master’s degree in SPED functional skills. I am doing a project around writing skills and students with significant disabilities. I would like to hear your presentation and use it as a resource. When I click on the link, it gives me visuals but not any of the audio from your presentation. Is it possible to get a script or notes or something to go with it?

Hi – in the presentation the only audio is in the videos. Unfortunately I don’t have a script or notes – I just present the information as it comes. Sorry!

    Hi Jane!

I was wondering if there are any PD’s you would recommend for staff at an SDS in Melbourne around a balanced literacy approach?

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

Hi Bronte, I don’t know of anything organised at this stage. You could see about attending the training sessions that CPEC does – you can contact them through their website http://www.cpec.org.au. Cheers Jane
